SPERO GROUP attended World AIDS 2006 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where we established contacts with others that are involved in the fight against this global pandemic. What we found in discussing issues and attending conferences is that a vital aspect of this fight had not, at that time, been seriously considered: safe water. This is suprising considering the potential danger that unsafe water poses to weakened immune systems. A great deal of money may be spent on an individual for medicine who subsequently dies from dysentery from unsafe drinking water. We do greatly applaud the tremendous work being done to improve nutrition where HIV/AIDS victims are concerned. This is why Spero Group partnered with ProAfrica Foods in Pretoria and Tumai.org in Johannesburg; to provide an avenue for nutritious foods. |

Bob Downey attended a conference on the role of nutrition in the fight against HIV/AIDS chaired by Dr. Paul Farmer. Spero Group is endeavoring to assess the nutritional requirements of the communities in which we work and support full nutrition programs whenever possible. Dr. Farmer's role in this field of work has been incredibly important for the future of this fight; Spero Group will maintain contact with his organization for information on their work and the research information they uncover.
Most of the communities Spero Group works with encompass a large AIDS positive population. Many connections were made at this conference that have left us better informed and will enable us to meet these needs better. |
