In January, Victor Mooney will depart from The Republic of Cape Verde, an archipelago just off the west coast of Africa,and make his third attempt to row from Africa to Brooklyn. The 44-year-old Forest Hills resident is making the trip to draw attention to the AIDS crisis. Mooney, a long time AIDS advocate, has been rowing the waters around New York for years increasing awareness of this disease. He has lost one brother to AIDS and has another that's HIV +. Mooney is a college public affairs officer, founder of South African Arts International and a married father of four Tumaiwater dropped 200 (1 liter) bottles of water at Composite Yacht. The water will serve as ballast. After drinking the water, Victor will replenish it with sea water. The NEVER GIVE UP rowboat will have two watermakers on board.
